Meet the Expert – Stacey Swain

Howells Solicitors

04 Apr, 2024

Medical Negligence and Newly Qualified Solicitor, Stacey Swain, joined Howells in 2022, accepting a training contract with the firm after working as a paralegal in civil dispute resolution at another law firm.

During her training contract, Stacey worked in the Family Law team at Howells, in both the Matrimonial and Children Law departments, where she gained experience attending Family Court hearings and supporting solicitors on a wide variety of family law matters.

Stacey then settled in the Medical Negligence team where she has now accepted a full-time position as a Newly Qualified Solicitor.

Before choosing to apply for her training contract at Howells, Stacey carried out research on firms in the Yorkshire area and was attracted to Howells due to the firm’s values and reputation for its commitment to provide ‘justice for all’.

“Howells seemed like a great firm to work for, the legal teams are incredibly experienced, and the firm had great client testimonials which I found very appealing. I wanted to work for a firm that would support me in developing my legal career and help me grow as a professional through strong leadership and training.”

Stacey said “The support and encouragement that I’ve received from colleagues during my training contract has been second to none. Everybody is approachable and friendly which makes for a great working environment that allows you to thrive in your role.

Stacey was also attracted by the ‘grow within’ ethos Howells promoted, and the hands-on support offered by the firm’s partners.

Discussing her time completing her training contract, Stacey said “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the exposure I’ve had to different areas of law by getting to work in a variety of departments during my training contract.

“During my time spent with the Medical Negligence team I have had the opportunity and privilege to work on inquest matters and serious injury cases alongside senior solicitors. With these matters people are faced with situations that are some of the most devastating times of a person’s life and it’s rewarding to be able to work with families to support them through the inquest and claims process.”

Now qualified, Stacey has accepted a full-time contract in the Howells Medical Negligence department, working on inquests and in all areas of clinical negligence which involves dealing with claims against GPs and Hospital Trusts. She will be based in the busy Sheffield office on Bridge Street.
