How Our Fixed Fee Divorce Service Works
Benefit from our fixed-fee divorce package, providing you with clear, upfront costs without sacrificing the quality in service and expert guidance.
A fixed-fee divorce works in the same way as any other type of divorce proceedings, but you’re told exactly what you’ll pay before the process begins, ensuring transparency. If you’re looking to end your marriage without any financial and property disputes or child arrangements, this could be an option that fits your circumstances.
Alternatively, we can deal with your divorce on a fixed fee basis and then deal with children arrangements, child maintenance and financial settlements separately or at a later stage.
What ever your circumstances, we would advise talking to a divorce solicitor at the earliest stage to understand your legal rights. We offer a free initial 30-minute consultation to new clients by telephone, video call or face to face.

Our promise to you
Divorce and separation does not have to be complicated or costly. If you are thinking about separating, or even getting divorced, we offer advice through a range of affordable fixed fees or competitive hourly rate services to give you the advice and support you need at a price you can afford.
The Howells Solicitors promise to you:
No surprises: We will provide a written estimate of costs at the outset of any case and keep you regularly informed of your costs position throughout.
No legal jargon. We will take time to understand your needs and provide clear explanations, so you completely understand what’s going on every step of the way.
Minimise stress. The breakdown of a relationship is invariably one of the most difficult situations anyone can encounter. We will help you reach the best possible outcome for you and your family with the least possible distress. We understand the importance of seeking to find amicable solutions to the issues that need to be resolved during the divorce or separation process. However, we will always have your best interests at the forefront or our actions, and we will strive to get you the best outcome possible.
Fair pricing. We always do our best to minimise cost where possible. Our fixed fees and transparent costings mean you know how much your legal work will cost. Our hourly rates are some of the most competitive across England and Wales.
Starting Divorce Proceedings
If you are starting divorce proceedings, known as “the applicant” you’re responsible for completing and submitting the divorce application, which we will do on your behalf as part of our fixed fee service.
For applicants our fixed fee divorce service is £399 + VAT (£79.80) + Court fees (£593) and any other disbursements such as if there is need for a translation of your marriage certificate = Total £1,071.80 + disbursements.
These are the costs to legally end your marriage. There may be additional costs to resolve any matters to do with finances, or children. This can vary depending on the case, and we can discuss your options with you once you start divorce proceedings with us.

Responding to Divorce Proceedings
If your spouse has issued divorce proceedings against you, this means you’re the respondent. You will receive the completed divorce application once this has been issued by the court.
Our fixed fee divorce solicitors can assist in preparing and lodging the necessary paperwork with court and oversee the process of finalising the divorce.
For respondents, our fixed fee divorce service costs £275 + VAT (£55) and any other disbursements = Total £330 + disbursements.
This fee is payable upfront. There is no court fee to pay if you are the respondent.

How Long Does It Take to Get a Fixed Fee Divorce?
If there are no complications, a fixed fee divorce generally takes 8-10 months to complete. This will depend on how busy the family courts are.
Can You Contest a Fixed Fee Divorce?
A fixed fee divorce is the same as a normal divorce. Under the no fault divorce law that came into force in 2022, it’s generally no longer possible to contest a divorce unless this is on the basis of jurisdiction. If you are applying for a divorce against the wishes of your spouse, or responding to a divorce that you don’t agree to, discuss your options with our fixed fee divorce solicitors.
Divorce Financial Settlements
Divorce brings marriage to a legal end but it does not end the financial commitments between the couple. In order to end matrimonial financial commitments, and to protect your finances upon divorce, a financial consent order or a clean break order, is required from the court. Each person’s financial affairs are then completely separated from each other free from claim in future.
Formally resolving financial issues is vital for your future and the future of your children. Our fixed fee divorce solicitors are experts in achieving fair divorce financial settlements and dealing with uncooperative spouses.

Flexible Family Law Appointments
We understand that dealing with family law matters can be stressful, and finding time to attend in-person appointments isn’t always easy. That’s why we offer our full range of family law services remotely, offering a more efficient and convenient service.
We are able to offer advice nationwide on that basis, which can often work out to be cheaper and more convenient, frequently providing representation to family law clients around the whole country.
We can offer our family law legal support via telephone or secure online meetings. This approach allows you to access expert legal advice from the comfort of your home, without the need to travel or rearrange your schedule. I
If your case requires a court hearing, many such procedural matters are now handled remotely too, or if in person we can arrange representation by a suitable local barrister, ensuring your legal journey is as smooth and accessible as possible.
Our remote services are designed to be just as personal and confidential as in-person consultations, with clear communication and full transparency every step of the way.
Remote appointments are offered throughout the case, and most correspondence is handled by email. Whether you’re dealing with sensitive family matters or simply seeking guidance, we ensure a smooth, stress-free experience that puts your needs first.
If you do wish to meet us face to face, you can book an appointment at one of our offices in Sheffield, Barnsley or Rotherham. While remote services offer convenience, they may not be suitable for those with limited digital literacy or access or where safeguarding is critical.
